February Book Haul

This month, my February wrap up consists of three books. Two I bought, one I received for free.

The books were;

  1. •Kings Cage, by Victoria Aveyard
  2. •Traitor to the Throne by
  3. •Carve the Mark my Veronica Roth

Kings Cage

Goodreads Summary – In this breathless third instalment to Victoria Aveyard’s bestselling Red Queen series, allegiances are tested on every side. And when the Lightning Girl’s spark is gone, who will light the way for the rebellion?
Mare Barrow is a prisoner, powerless without her lightning, tormented by her lethal mistakes. She lives at the mercy of a boy she once loved, a boy made of lies and betrayal. Now a king, Maven Calore continues weaving his dead mother’s web in an attempt to maintain control over his country—and his prisoner.
As Mare bears the weight of Silent Stone in the palace, her once-ragtag band of newbloods and Reds continue organizing, training, and expanding. They prepare for war, no longer able to linger in the shadows. And Cal, the exiled prince with his own claim on Mare’s heart, will stop at nothing to bring her back.
When blood turns on blood, and ability on ability, there may be no one left to put out the fire—leaving Norta as Mare knows it to burn all the way down

This is one of my most anticipated released of the year. It’s the third book in the Red Queen series. I’ve already read it, and it was so much better than the first two books.

Traitor to the Throne

Goodreads summary – Mere months ago, gunslinger Amani al’Hiza fled her dead-end hometown on the back of a mythical horse with the mysterious foreigner Jin, seeking only her own freedom. Now she’s fighting to liberate the entire desert nation of Miraji from a bloodthirsty sultan who slew his own father to capture the throne.
When Amani finds herself thrust into the epicenter of the regime—the Sultan’s palace—she’s determined to bring the tyrant down. Desperate to uncover the Sultan’s secrets by spying on his court, she tries to forget that Jin disappeared just as she was getting closest to him, and that she’s a prisoner of the enemy. But the longer she remains, the more she questions whether the Sultan is really the villain she’s been told he is, and who’s the real traitor to her sun-bleached, magic-filled homeland.
Forget everything you thought you knew about Miraji, about the rebellion, about djinni and Jin and the Blue-Eyed Bandit. In Traitor to the Throne, the only certainty is that everything will change.

If you haven’t heard of Rebel of the Sands, I wrote a spoiler free review of the first book, which you can check out here. It’s a cross between western and Arabian nights. I can’t wait to find out what happened.

Carve the Mark

Goodreads summary – In a galaxy powered by the current, everyone has a gift.
Cyra is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the Shotet people. Cyra’s currentgift gives her pain and power — something her brother exploits, using her to torture his enemies. But Cyra is much more than just a blade in her brother’s hand: she is resilient, quick on her feet, and smarter than he knows.
Akos is the son of a farmer and an oracle from the frozen nation-planet of Thuvhe. Protected by his unusual currentgift, Akos is generous in spirit, and his loyalty to his family is limitless. Once Akos and his brother are captured by enemy Shotet soldiers, Akos is desperate to get this brother out alive — no matter what the cost.
The Akos is thrust into Cyra’s world, and the enmity between their countries and families seems insurmountable. Will they help each other to survive, or will they destroy one another?
Carve the Mark is Veronica Roth’s stunning portrayal of the power of friendship — and love — in a galaxy filled with unexpected gifts.

I won this in a giveaway last month and it finally arrived a few days ago. I’ve heard mixed views, some say it’s racist, others say it’s not. I will read this and write a review, and I will take people’s views into consideration.  In no way am I supporting racism by reading this book.

That’s all the books I bought in February, I hope you enjoyed reading this, let me know what books you bought/received in the comments below!

  1. I’m on an extremely low buy so I’ve been borrowing a lot from the library and reading what I have. The exceptions are books that are series conclusions, meaning I can buy Conjuring of Light and Thirteenth Rising when it’s published!

      1. I’m not even doing anticipated releases. There’s only three books that I need to buy, one of them won’t be published until October.
